Was die vorliegende Sonata No 2 betrifft, ist es jedoch ganz einfach Richard Lane‘s Komponier-Leidenschaft. Vor einigen Jahren, nach einem meiner Solistenkonzerte, fragte er mich, ob mir eine Bratschen-Sonate Freude bereiten würde. Ich bejahte spontan. Das Werk habe ich dann in seiner Anwesenheit in Nyack, NY (USA) uraufgeführt. Es freut mich besonders, dass seine zahlreichen Werken nun veröffentlicht werden. Er war ein Mann von echter Liebenswürdigkeit, und seine Werke brachten die Zuhörer stets zum Strahlen. Seine Musik war ihm absolut ähnlich: sanftmütig, ehrlich und inspirierend. Richard Lane fehlt allen die ihn gekannt haben und rückblickend ist es eine Ehre, dass mein Name auf einem seiner Werke steht!' Ariel Rudiakov, Manchester, VT, USA, den 20. In this case, the Sonata No. 2 was a product of Richard Lane's own love of composing. He came to a concert some years ago in which I was playing a solo, and afterwards asked me if I would like him to write a sonata for me. My answer was, of course, yes. I later gave the Premiere of the Sonata No. 2 in Nyack, NY with Richard Lane in the audience. I am so very pleased that an effort is being made to publish his music collectively. He was such a dear, dear man whose music brought a smile to those who heard it. His music was very much like the man; gentle (overall), sincere and uplifting. He is greatly missed by all who knew him, and in retrospect it is an honor to have one of his works bearing an inscription to me.'
